What is Nutrigenomics?

Nutrigenomics uses genomic tools and genetic information to address issues important to nutrition and health. The main goal of nutrigenomics is to prevent chronic disease by examining how the interaction between genes and diet can positively influence human health.

The protein products of our genes (enzymes, transporters, receptors, hormones etc.) interact with components of the food we eat to influence our nutritional status.

Genetic variation results in multiple versions of genes, which can lead to differences in the amount of proteins produced and how efficiently proteins function. Genetic differences can affect how we respond to the foods we eat, giving each of us our own specific nutritional needs. For example, some people respond more than others to a high protein diet for weight loss.

Nutrigenomics allows us to understand how our genes affect the way we respond to the foods, beverages, and supplements we consume.

What do we do?

We provide personalized dietary consultations by incorporating the science of nutrigenomics and tailoring a person’s nutritional intake to his or her genetic profile.

How do we do it?

It is a simple non-invasive genetic test that consists of a panel of 45 genetic markers. Saliva samples are taken by a Registered Dietitian and will be sent to the Nutrigenomix CAP and CLIA accredited lab for analysis.

The Nutrigenomix Laboratory uses state of the art genetic testing procedures to analyse the DNA from the sample. Your specific genetic code is analysed to determine how your genes can influence recommendations related to:

  • Weight Management
  • Body Composition
  • Nutrient Metabolism
  • Heart Health
  • Food Intolerances
  • Eating Habits
  • Fitness Performance
  • Injury Risk

Recommendations are based on the most current evidence-based scientific research that has been published in peer reviewed journals and reviewed by the Nutrigenomix team of world-renowned experts in the field of nutrigenomics.

Test results are included in a customized report delivered to you within 2-3 weeks after your tests are completed and will include enhanced series of dietary and physical activity recommendations based on your individual genetic profile. This can help you to achieve optimal nutritional status so you can start to eat according to your genes!
